My ex-husband, Pepín Rivero, is a Cuban songwriter and guitarist. Here’s a song he wrote called Cuando Pienso en Ti (When I Think of You). The singer is Pepín’s cousin, Leslie Cartaya.
Pepín and Leslie have performed in Miami nightspots such as Hoy Como Ayer, Café Nostalgia, and Havana Dreams. They have also appeared with recording artist Marisela Verena at clubs such as Kimbara Cumbara. Here’s Marisela and Leslie (with Pepín on guitar) performing Luna, one of Marisela’s prettiest songs.
Leslie now sings with a Latin funk band called Palo.
Another of Pepín’s songs, Como Hay Gente en la Calle, was performed by recording artist Albita on the first episode of her weekly TV show La Desgarga con Albita. The song appears on her album Mis Tacones, and has also been recorded by salsa master Gilberto Santa Rosa.
This one, En una Botella en Alta Mar (Message in a Bottle) was recorded in Cuba with the help of friends Raquelita (vocal) and Yoelito (percussion).
Here’s one more, Cuando Se Fue, also recorded in Cuba.
