Anoushka Shankar - Your Eyes
My head is still spinning. My Iranian manicurist was supposed to take me out for Persian food tonight, but instead took me to a party at the home of some friends of hers, an Indian couple celebrating their anniversary. Oh, my goodness - the saris, the incense, the chanting, the curry! And lots of music, for which I wasn’t exactly unprepared. My older sister studied ethnomusicology, and took me with her, when I very young, to Russian balalaika concerts, Javanese gamelan performances, and many an exhibition of Hindu song and dance. In those days, though, we didn’t all carry cameras in our pockets, so as much as I wanted to take video tonight, I feared it might be considered inappropriate. So instead I give you the only thing I can think of off the top of my head: Anoushka Shankar’s mindblowing sitar solo from the Concert for George (Harrison), recorded about ten years ago at the Royal Albert Hall. Namaste, my friends.
I love this music
