My Vicky Life

At the Coheed and Cambria show the other night, Claudio Sanchez brought his cousin on stage, who proposed to his girlfriend to the opening chords of Wake Up. It was almost completely in the dark, so it’s really hard to see, but at the very end of this clip you can almost make out the figure of someone kneeling down. This is the second marriage proposal I’ve witnessed in this very venue. The first was back in May, when Chris Cornell was gracious enough to allow a fan to come up on stage to express his undying love for a girl in the crowd. It was all very romantic, but I always get an odd feeling when I see a young couple just starting out. I’m happy for them, but I’m scared too. Sometimes I think that marriage is a quaint idea whose time has passed. I don’t know. I can’t decide if my odd feeling comes from empathy (I don’t want to see anyone get hurt), or jealousy (I was once married to a very nice person, but I’ve never been in love), or just plain old cynicism. Anyway, I didn’t mean for this comment to be longer than the video. I do wish these children well.

You can see the rest of Wake Up here, by the way. It’s quite beautiful.
