Chris Cornell - As Hope and Promise Fade (excerpt - audio only)

Recorded one year ago today at the Fillmore Miami Beach. They were really strict about taking pictures and video. I did my best to comply - better, in fact, than most others in the audience - so this teensy bit of scratchy audio stays right where it is until I get a cease and desist order from the copyright police.

P.S. Who else thinks Ann Wilson from Heart should do a cover of this song?

The Lovemongers - Sand

Since my recent post of a video of Heart is getting more attention than I expected, here’s a pretty song from when Ann & Nancy had a band called The Lovemongers. They recorded it again years later for a Heart album, but I think this version is better.

Heart - Straight On

Poor video quality, but here’s a great performance by Heart, recorded during my favorite year. (Someday I’ll post that story…)

Sandy Denny - Who Knows Where the Time Goes?

I guess I’m celebrating Led Zeppelin today because I saw a student in the library this morning wearing a Led Zeppelin t-shirt (which always surprises me), and now Ramble On just popped up on my dash. It made me think of another song, The Battle of Evermore, which of course led me to Sandy Denny, the girl who sings on that record. She had one of the most beautiful voices ever, and this video is one of her best songs. She wrote it when she was something like 18. Hard to believe someone so young could be so insightful. She died in 1978 at the age of 31. And while we’re on the subject of Led Zeppelin, the 70s, and great female voices, here’s a song that was undoubtedly influenced by The Battle of Evermore, Heart’s Dream of the Archer.
