…Speaking of Portuguese, my Cuban ex-husband loves Brazilian music and introduced me to a lot of it. Jazz isn’t really my thing, but it’s awfully hard not to like this. Prepare for extreme relaxation.

I’ve been trying to think of a good video to post for summer solstice, and since it’s also World Music Day, I decided on this, the final scene from the 1959 Brazilian film Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus). It might not make you believe that music makes the sun rise, but if it doesn’t put a smile on your face, there may be something wrong with you.

So far my favorites are bands like Incubus, Coheed and Cambria, The Dead Weather, The White Stripes, and The Black Keys. Bands I've always liked include Yes, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Crowes, Pink Floyd, and Heart, to name just a few. (Yeah, I tend to like bands with colors in their names. I even like Maroon 5.)
