Someone was just blogging about songs called Wish You Were Here (like the ones by Incubus and Pink Floyd). Here’s another one, an old one, a sad one, by Fleetwood Mac.

Day 21: A favorite song with a person’s name in the title.

I never realized how many songs I like fit into this category. Considering what’s going on in my life right now, I should probably go with Rod Stewart’s Maggie May or Simon & Garfunkel’s Mrs. Robinson, but instead I’m putting Angie by The Rolling Stones at the top of the list. Next is Bobbie Gentry’s Ode to Billie Joe, one of the greatest songs ever. Other favorites include:

Speaking of Brandon Boyd, he’s also been known to sing a few bars of Billie Jean now and then, and he’s been quoted as saying his favorite song ever is Leonard Cohen’s Suzanne. I never loved it, but for him, and because it’s pretty, I’ll offer up the Judy Collins version. Speaking of Judy Collins, there’s a song about her called Suite: Judy Blue Eyes by Crosby, Stills & Nash. There are lots of songs with the name Ruby in the title, so I’ll only mention a few: Ruby by The Kaiser Chiefs, Ruby Soho by Rancid, and Rubylove by Cat Stevens. I also have to include a few Jenny songs (since that’s my real name), and there are several, the classic of all time being Jenny Jenny by Tommy Tutone. There’s also Jenny by Walk the Moon, Jenny Was a Friend of Mine by The Killers, and Jennifer Juniper by Donovan. And finally, since I named my cat after it, here’s Kiwi by Maroon 5.

30 day music challenge

Day 1: A song you like with a color in the title.

Black Dog by Led Zeppelin, but there are tons of others. First, I think I should get bonus points for the ones by bands that have colors in their names too, like Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues, Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye by The Black Crowes, and Little Black Submarines by The Black Keys. And maybe also Sky Blue and Black by Jackson Browne - does that count? Here’s more:

Hmmm. Incubus, who hardly ever covers anyone, has covered TWO of these songs (Paint it Black and Black Hole Sun). Is it great minds thinking alike? :-)
