Celebrating exactly one year since the second of two Incubus concerts at The Joint in Las Vegas. Here’s Earth to Bella Part 1.
What’s José up to at 1:18?
If you liked my last post of Incubus in Las Vegas, here’s the same bit of In the Company of Wolves, recorded the following night from a few rows back, but with a better camera. I think the reason I didn’t zoom in more was because I wanted to keep an eye on José.
Okay, Incufestians … all together now:
♫ ♪ Happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you,
happy birthday, dear José,
happy birthday to yoooooouuuuuuuuuu!!!! ♪ ♫ ♥
I know a lot of you are kinda bummed today because of the sad news from the Deftones camp, so here’s something that will hopefully cheer you up. It’s almost time for #Incufest 2013, a worldwide celebration of all things Incubus, which will take place on Twitter between April 21 (i.e. 4/21, Incubus Day) and April 26 (José Pasillas’ birthday). The planning committee offers the following, not as a hard and fast schedule, but just as a suggestion of things we might focus on to make each day a little different. As with our previous parties, we expect #Incufest to take on a life of its own, and that additional themes will emerge as we go along.
Sunday, April 21 - Focus on Early Incubus (Fungus Amongus, S.C.I.E.N.C.E., When Incubus Attacks, Enjoy Incubus, etc.)
Monday, April 22 - All about Brandon Boyd, Make Yourself, and Morning View.
Tuesday, April 23 - Mike Einziger, A Crow Left of the Murder, and Light Grenades
Wednesday, April 24 - Ben Kenney, Monuments and Melodies, and If Not Now, When?
Thursday, April 25 - DJ Kilmore and all else Incubus (Look Alive, Red Rocks, HQ, Incubus covers, the band’s solo projects, Time Lapse Consortium, MYF, etc., etc.)
Friday, April 26 - All about birthday boy José Pasillas.
And of course, all throughout the festival, we want hear why you love Incubus, and invite you to share your Incubus stories, concert experiences, dream setlists, Incubus tattoos, and anything else you’d like to show and tell. And maybe if we all put our heads together we can finally solve the Pistola mystery!
We’ll probably schedule a flash tweet a day or two ahead of time to invite all the band members and let them know what we’re up to. So stay tuned to this channel for more information. In the meantime, head on over to anomalija-incubusic’s Facebook event to let us know you’re in!
Who: Incubus fans everywhere.
What: A virtual music festival.
When: All or part of the week that includes Incubus Day (4/21) and José Pasillas’ birthday (4/26), 2013.
Why: Because our birthday parties for Brandon Boyd and Ben Kenney were such a blast!
Stay tuned for more info…
This is starting to get humorous. For some time now, I’ve been seeing the name Mac Davis in the same sentence with names like Mike Shinoda, and now Incubus and Avicii, and I’ve been thinking, “No, it can’t be the same guy. There has to be someone else with the same name, someone younger and cooler, with whom I’m not yet familiar.” Nope. As far as I can tell, it’s the very same Mac Davis, the country singer/songwriter who had a TV variety show in the 70s, wrote songs for Elvis, and had hits of his own like Baby Don’t Get Hooked on Me.
I’m starting to sense a theme here. I don’t know if bands have anything to do with the music played on the loud speakers before and after their concerts, but last Tuesday when the Deftones had finished playing the Fillmore Miami Beach and the lights went up and we were all filing out of the theater, I could swear the song we were hearing was an instrumental version of Jimmy Webb’s Wichita Lineman (a beautiful song, actually), made popular by Glen Campbell in the late 60s. When Coheed and Cambria left the same stage a couple of weeks earlier, I’m pretty sure it was Tom Jones singing the theme to the James Bond movie Thunderball.
Easter eggs for the more mature among us? (i.e. those of us who remember when the Fillmore used to be called the Jackie Gleason Theater?) I doubt it, but it’s encouraging (not to mention fun) when the people you admire embrace the unexpected. It’s also a lesson learned in musical open-mindedness, and there’s nothing I like better than to learn things from people who are younger than me.
I’m not kidding with that tearful emoticon. There’s nothing in life worse than a missed opportunity, especially at my age. :’(
What, is all of Incubus in Miami this weekend? Sigh. So close and yet so far. So by way of this reblog I’ll tell @vatoben and @JoseAPasillasII the same thing I told @MichaelEinziger: I know you’re here for Ultra, but if it gets too insane, there’s cake at my house, and if I make a few calls I could probably have some of the best Cuban musicians in town sitting around my coffee table in no time. Try me.
Found my mang Jose chillin in Miami.
Nothing quite like an Incubus drum circle… mmm…
Yes we are. The #IncubusParty portion of the love referred to here consisted of 22 Incubabes tweeting for somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 hours. Attendees checked in from the United States, Canada, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Serbia, the Philippines, Middle Earth, and the Moon. Pretty impressive, if you ask me. Several of our tweets (including one of mine!) were favorited by the man himself, and I’m aware of at least one brief side conversation between him and a party guest.
Needless to say, we went off on a bit of a tangent when news of a probable Brandon Boyd solo tour hit the Twitter/Tumblrsphere, but we never lost sight of the main event: Ben.
If you missed the festivities, April provides an interesting opportunity for trying this again. The 21st (4/21) is known among hard-core fans as the first of two “Incubus Days” on the calendar (the second being November 11), and April 26th is the birthday of José Pasillas. (There’s also April 20, but I won’t go there…!) So someone suggested having something like a multi-day Incubus “festival” on Twitter (hashtag: #Incufest?) Think we can pull it off? Do we want to? I’m in, but it’s up to you. ♥
Incubus - Look Alive
Is this not getting too awesome to be true? So now that foreverincubus is accepting brief videos (because she and kimblasiansue are Incufans extraordinaire), I hope you’ll let me toss in another idea. One of my favorite websites is thenicestplaceontheinter.net, where people submit videos of themselves giving out hugs. Take a look and see what I mean. It’s amazing how much better it can make you feel if you’re down about something (in spite of the slightly sappy music), and even though Brandon’s life looks pretty sweet at the moment, take it from someone who has already celebrated her 37th birthday - it’s around that time that the number starts to get a little nervewracking, and I’m sure this is just as true for men as it is for women. So, if you’re having trouble deciding what you’re going to do for your video, consider sending Brandon a virtual hug. It’ll make 37 a whole lot easier to manage.
Could these men have cuter smiles, by the way?
Hi there, guys!
February 12 is nearly approaching. So, I would just have to remind everyone that my submit box is still open for submission of your fan sign photos with greetings for Brandon’s upcoming birthday. If you still don’t know what is this all about, you can refer to this post for more details.
Someone also suggested a nice idea to me, kimblasiansue—saying that it may be perfect if everyone of you would make a video clip of yourselves, saying why you love Incubus, or explaining how and why you’ve got to love the band. The video clip’s could be 30 seconds or less. Your video must be brief and specific.
In line with this, all the photos and videos that you guys will submit to me, will be compiled to a one video. I am never really good at making and editing videos—but I will do the best thing I can. Once the video is done we will try our best to send it to Brandon on twitter, on our virtual Incuparty on February 15.
I really do hope that this would work, and you guys will participate. Isn’t it so good when Brandon would just know, and appreciate that there’s a bunch of Incubus family of fans here on tumblr? I don’t know what is it to you, but for me, that would be incredibly awesome.
So please participate.
Submit your entry to my submit box, if you’re in.
It’s so much better when everyone is in, Are you in?
