The best money I spent this year.

Another 30 day music challenge
19. Snog, marry, avoid the first 3 artists on shuffle.
We don’t say “snog” here in the U.S., but I get the picture. As for “marry,” I’ve already blogged extensively about how I would not marry any musician or artist, because I know from experience that what attracts you to them is what eventually drives you insane. “Avoid” makes no sense, because if they’re on my iPod, it means I like them, so why would I want to avoid them? So really, the question is, “to snog, or not to snog?” So here goes: The first song to come up is, appropriately enough, Strange Desire by The Black Keys. Definitely snog. One, or the other, or preferably both. Next up is I Fought Piranhas by The White Stripes. Jack White I would so totally snog. Finally, Sweet Cloud by The Kills. Well, I think Jamie Hince is or was married to a supermodel, so I don’t think I could compete with that. However, although I’ve never snogged or had the desire to snog a woman, I sure wouldn’t kick Alison Mosshart off my couch.

30 day music challenge

Day 2: A song you like with a number in the title.

A tie between Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and 11 a.m. by Incubus. Honorable mentions include One Step Up by Bruce Springsteen (the only song I’m listing with “one” in the title, because there are way too many), Four Sticks and Ten Years Gone by Led Zeppelin, Sun/C79 by Cat Stevens, Just the Two of Us by Bill Withers & Grover Washington Jr., 4 + 20 by Stephen Stills, Four Strong Winds by Neil Young, Freedom at 21 by Jack White, 3’s & 7’s by Queens of the Stone Age, Dead Road 7 by The Kills, and, okay, two more “one” songs: In One Ear by Cage the Elephant, and Bob Dylan’s One More Cup of Coffee by The White Stripes. For something new, let’s throw in 45 by Gaslight Anthem, and can I get a bonus point for One More Night by Maroon 5, since the band’s name has a number in it too?

I’d switch teams for Alison Mosshart.

I’d switch teams for Brandon Boyd.

The Kills at Revolution Live, Fort Lauderdale, January 28, 2012
The third time in the past few months that my concert-going expectations have been greatly exceeded: Incubus, My Morning Jacket, and now The Kills. Well worth the temporary paralysis I’m now experiencing from standing for 5 straight hours (in line and through 2 opening acts) at my age. At last September’s Incubus show, I was, of course, the oldest person there, until I saw someone possibly older than me out of the corner of my eye. Turned out he was just the guy selling T-shirts. At tonight’s performance, there were actually two people who looked older than me, but according to the buzz in the audience, they were none other than Alison Mosshart’s parents, who presumably live in the area. I’m sure they’re very proud. Their baby wailed. Stay tuned for video.

Off to see The Kills…

Just learned that Alison Mosshart is originally from around these parts. I know that coming back “home” isn’t always good for everyone. Hope it’s good for her.

The Kills - Dead Road 7

The Kills - No Wow

Seeing them next week!

The Kills - Fried My Little Brains

Alison Mosshart is the only female musician who speaks to me these days.

(I take it back - maybe Björk too.)
