Since it seems to be cool video day on my blog, here’s one more, No Corras Tanto, by Madrid-based artist Cesar Díaz Meléndez. It took him three months to make this amazing sand animation video using no special effects - just a light table, a camera, and sand. The music was written and performed by his own band, El Combolinga.

"Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde has developed a way to create clouds indoors by carefully regulating the space’s humidity, temperature and light. This intersection of science and art was recently named one of TIME magazine’s ‘Best Inventions of the Year 2012.’

The fluffy white clouds are summoned up temporarily using a fog machine, creating a surreal experience in the middle of a room. Smilde has created his clouds inside different types of locations, ranging from corridors and hallways, to bedrooms and common spaces.”

The men of Incubus are in Madrid. So is this Picasso. It must be pretty hot in Madrid today.

The Vegas definition of “glass ceiling.” Chihuly at the Bellagio.

Believe it or not, seeing Incubus wasn’t the only thing I did in Las Vegas last weekend. There’s a Monet exhibit at the Bellagio, and although impressionism isn’t exactly my favorite cup of tea, art is a lot like Incubus - easier to appreciate when you see it in person.
Now help me out here Incufans, because you’re the only ones who understand me. Do I have a one track mind? Is it because I have Brandon Boyd on the brain, or is this painting just a teensy bit erotic?

As much as I love Brandon Boyd and his music, and the art he finds influential, I’m not that big a fan of his paintings. This one, though, I like very much. It’s probably my favorite of his works, so I couldn’t resist ordering one of the prints that have just gone up for sale. I’m considering it an investment, but between this, the meet & greet in May, and the plane ticket to get there, I’m going to end up in debtor’s prison. I wonder if, in this day and age, I’ll have access to Tumblr in there.

News from the art world courtesy of Brandon Boyd. A coincidence, since the painting in question expresses exactly how I feel today.

Pablo Picasso - Minotaur Caressing a Sleeping Girl
What is wrong with me? I posted this picture last week while reminiscing about a trip to Spain, but so totally failed to make the obvious connection. Let’s see…a naked mythological creature making love to a woman while she sleeps. Wouldn’t that be something like…an Incubus?!? ♥

Just came across some post cards from when my ex-husband and I visited Spain a few years ago. Of all the works of art we saw, this is the one that really grabbed our attention: Picasso’s Minotaur Caressing a Sleeping Girl.
